How do I add a domain to my WordPress app?

How to add a domain to your Managed WordPress package.

Updated today

General Information

With every Managed WordPress package, a "service domain" is automatically created. This domain identifies your app and remains unchanged throughout its duration. The service domain has the following format:

app00000000.internex.host

To connect your own domain to your WordPress app, it must:

  • exist in your internex account.

  • be located in the same cloud as the Managed WordPress package.

If these requirements are met, you can proceed directly to step 1.

If your Managed WordPress package is located in a different cloud, you can find out how to move the domain to that cloud here: How can I move a product to a different cloud?

If you obtain your domain from an external provider and do not wish to transfer it, you can create the desired domain as an external domain. Instructions for this can be found in the article: What is an external domain and how do I create one?

1 - Open WordPress Studio

You can find out how to access your WordPress Studio in the article: Where can I find my Managed WordPress product in the internex terminal?

2 - Domains & SSL

In WordPress Studio, select "Domains & SSL" from the menu on the left.

3 - Set up / link domain

3.1 - Connecting the domain with the package

Click the green "Add new domain" button. A pop-up window will appear where you can select the desired domain from a drop-down menu. If the desired domain does not appear here, please check if it is located in the same account and the same cloud as the Managed WordPress package. Then click "Next".

3.2 - Usage / Select Subdomain

Choose how you want to connect your domain. Two options are available:

  • www.domain.tld / domain.tld: Use the main domain (www & root)

  • [...]domain.tld: Define your own subdomain

Then click "Save changes" to connect the domain.

3.3 - Connected Domains

The selected domain is now listed under "Connected Domains" in the overview. To complete the connection, you need to change the DNS settings of the selected domain. To do this, click the three dots on the right under "Actions" -> "Setup Info" to continue.

3.4 - Change DNS Settings

A window will open with various methods for configuring DNS.

Select your preferred method and adjust the DNS settings accordingly. For instructions on how to access your domain's DNS management, see the article: How can I change my domain's DNS settings?

If your domain is hosted externally, you may need to adjust the settings with your external provider.

If the domain is hosted in the same cloud as the Managed WordPress product and no DNS settings exist in the zone, the corresponding settings will be configured automatically when the domain is activated.

If you need help with DNS setup or have any questions, please contact [email protected]

3.5 - Conclusion

After changing the DNS settings for your domain, it may take a little while for the status to change in WordPress Studio.

The SSL certificate will be issued automatically by the server once the DNS settings have been correctly configured.

Once the SSL certificate is successfully installed, you can force automatic redirection in the interface. To do this, click "Force SSL/HTTPS" under "Actions." Your app will then always be automatically accessible via an encrypted connection.

4 - Remove Domain

4.1 - Change Primary Domain

To remove a domain from your Managed WordPress package, it must not be the package's primary domain. You can switch back to the "Service Domain" for this purpose.

In the "Domains & SSL" menu, click the three dots under "Actions" next to your service domain on the right-hand side and then click "Make it the Primary Domain".

4.2 - Deleting a Domain

Now, click on the three dots on the right side of the domain you want to delete and select "Delete Domain". You will be asked to confirm, and then the domain will be deleted from your Managed WordPress package.
