Where can I view or edit the quota for my webspace mailbox?

How to view and change the available storage space for your webspace mailbox.

1 - Difference between "Storage Space" and "Quota"

The term "storage space" (or "mailspace") refers to the total email storage capacity available to you as part of your web hosting product. "Quota" refers to the storage space allocated to an individual mailbox.

Below is an overview of these terms:

  • Storage space (mailspace) on the server: e.g., 10 GB

  • Quota for a mailbox: e.g., 2 GB

  • Space used in a mailbox: e.g., 205 MB

  • Total remaining quota (= remaining mailspace) on the server: e.g., 8 GB

You can distribute the total mailspace available with your web hosting product among your individual mailboxes as you see fit.

2 - Viewing and Editing Quotas

To view the total remaining quota or the quota for an individual mailbox, first navigate to the Webhosting Manager for the relevant web hosting product. You can find instructions on how to do this here: Where do I manage my webspace?

Open the Webhosting Manager as described in the instructions, then click on "E-mail" -> "Mailboxen" in the menu on the left.

At least one mailbox must exist in order to view the quota. If your package does not yet contain any mailboxes, you can create one by clicking on "Neue Mailbox".

For the mailbox whose quota you wish to view or edit, click the green "Speicher" button.

Here, you can see an overview of the storage space used, the quota for each individual mailbox, and the total remaining quota.

  • "Benutzter Speicherplatz": This refers to the amount of disk space currently occupied by emails or data within the mailbox.

  • "Quota": This refers to the storage space allocated to an individual mailbox; for example, the mailbox shown in the screenshot can store a maximum of 200 MB of data.

  • "Verbleibende Gesamtquota": This refers to the total amount of mailspace still available within your web hosting package that can be assigned to mailboxes.

In the screenshot, there is a total remaining quota of 6600 MB. Since 200 MB is currently allocated to the mailbox, you could, for instance, increase its quota to a total of 4000 MB. To do this, enter the desired quota and click "OK".

In the overview, you can also see that the mailbox quota has now been increased to 4.00 GB (4000 MB). You can click on "Speicher" at any time to view the current storage info.

Please note that upgrading your storage space does not automatically adjust your mailbox quota. Only the total available quota is increased, any adjustments to individual mailbox quotas must be performed manually via the Webhosting Manager.

When creating a new mailbox, the system typically suggests allocating 10% of the total available quota to it. You are, of course, free to adjust this amount as you see fit or increase it further.
