There are some differences to note between a Hosted Exchange direct setup and a split setup:
Direct setup
All DNS settings for mail point directly to Hosted Exchange (MX, mail, etc.).
Login is possible using the mailbox name (email address) on the Exchange server at.exchangeserver.online.
The mailbox name is structured as follows:

Split setup
The DNS settings for mail point to a server that forwards incoming mail to Hosted Exchange. This makes it possible to create IMAP/POP mailboxes on the server in addition to the Hosted Exchange mailboxes.
You must log in to the Exchange server at.exchangeserver.online using your username; logging in using your email address is not possible.
The username is structured as follows:
