How to integrate your S/MIME certificate into Outlook (Classic) for Windows.

Updated over 3 months ago

1 - Issuance

When you order the certificate, you will receive an email from the certification authority GlobalSign. You will also receive a pickup password for issuance from us; please make sure you have this handy.

Check that the email is from the correct sender: [email protected]

Then click on the approval link. This will open the following website for data verification.

Klick "I APPROVE" and close the website.

You will then receive another email from GlobalSign. Click the link again to generate the certificate.

A page will open where you must enter the pickup password you received from us.

Please note that this is the pickup password you received from us via email!

Enter the pickup password and click "Next."

You'll find the certificate password on the next page.

Please be sure to save the certificate password in a safe place!

Accept the Subscriber Agreement and click "Next."

Now download the successfully generated certificate by clicking on “Download My Certificate”.

A .pfx file will be downloaded. Click the folder icon to go to the Downloads folder.

The certificate's .pfx file is now located in your Downloads folder. Double-click the file and install the certificate.

During the installation, you will need to enter the certificate password. Please note that this is not the pickup password we sent you, but the certificate password from the GlobalSign website!

Follow the necessary steps for installation.

2 - Integrate the certificate into Outlook

Now open Outlook (Classic) to integrate the certificate. Click "File" in the top left corner.

Now click on “Options” in the menu on the left.

In the new window, select "Trust Center" and click "Trust Center Settings".

In the Trust Center, select "Email Security" in the menu on the left and then "Encrypted email" -> "Default Setting" -> "Settings".

In the new window, select the installed S/MIME certificate as the signing certificate.

Please also ensure that "SHA512" is selected as the hash algorithm.

Then click "OK."

A new window will open to confirm the certificate. Check the certificate name (your email address) and click "OK."

3 - Completion

The certificate is now ready for S/MIME signing. When sending a new message, you can select "Sign" under the "Options" tab.
